Support PBS Reno During Public Media Giving Days

Public Media Giving Days take place May 1 and 2, 2024

RENO, NV (May 1, 2024)What does PBS Reno mean to you, your family, friends, and community? Whether it’s Wild Nevada, ARTEFFECTS, and other award-earning local programming; educational outreach in local classrooms, or indulging in PBS favorites like Finding Your Roots, Masterpiece, Nature, or Antiques Roadshow, today is your chance to join others and show your support for PBS Reno during Public Media Giving Days.

The second annual Public Media Giving Days are taking place May 1 and May 2, 2024. You are invited to share what public media means to you in several ways to support PBS Reno and other entities in the public media system. First, make a financial contribution in any amount by calling/texting 775.600.0550 or by visiting pbsreno.org/donate. Next, share a message on social media with the hashtag #PublicMediaGives. Financial contributions from the community make up 82% of PBS Reno’s annual operating budget, which is why gifts of support from individuals in PBS Reno’s viewing area in northern Nevada and northeastern California are so important in keeping PBS Reno on the air with meaningful programming for everyone to enjoy.

“It’s a common misunderstanding that public television is made possible by government sources,” said Emma Glenn, PBS Reno Vice President of Development. “The majority of our funding, over $5 million, comes from individual donations from our viewers and our valued community partnerships. Less than a quarter of our revenue – 18% – came from Federal and State funding in 2023. While this is an important slice of our funding, we wouldn’t be able to operate on this amount alone. The funding received from our members and community partners not only reflects the trust people have for public television; it also shows that people want PBS Reno on the air and in our Nevada classrooms, and that a financial contribution – no matter the amount – is worth the investment.”

“When people choose to financially support PBS Reno, their contribution is used toward producing Wild Nevada, ARTEFFECTS, STEM Works, and additional local award-earning content,” said Sam Harris, PBS Reno Director of Membership. “Their gift is also used to pay for the costs associated with our Curiosity Classroom Workshops, which are delivered to thousands of classrooms in nine school districts in northern Nevada and northeastern California. The generosity of our community is in direct proportion to the services we are able to provide! During Public Media Giving Days, we invite everyone to make a gift of support in the amount that reflects their appreciation for PBS Reno.”
